Am I eligible for SFI?
Updated 2026-08-31
You need at least 3 hectares of agricultural land in England, registered with the Rural Payments Agency under a Single Business Identifier (SBI). SFI is England-only — Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland run separate schemes under their own agencies.
Beyond the 3-hectare minimum, eligibility is per-action: each of the 71 SFI26 actions has its own eligible land types and land covers. Some land — SSSIs, land with historic or archaeological features — needs extra consent (Natural England, or an SFI HEFER) before certain actions can be entered.
If you have an existing SFI23 or SFI24 agreement, you can generally keep it running unaffected — most SFI26 changes apply to new agreements only.
